Many compliance topics and issues impact on U-M’s teaching functions – as highlighted by considering the activity of classroom teaching. However, there are also numerous laws that relate specifically to the provision of education, including the administration of financial aid and student records.

Responsibilities for education compliance

  • All teaching units, and all faculty and staff that work with students, are responsible for ensuring compliance with education laws, as relevant to their respective roles.
  • The Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs has overall responsibility for compliance by the University with laws relating to the provision of education.
  • The Registrar’s Office operationally supports compliance by the University with laws related to student records.
  • The Financial Aid Office has overall responsibility for the compliance by the University with laws related to the administration of financial aid.
